Quotes

Every commission is quoted individually

We do not publish a price list, because no two commissions are the same garment. Tell us what you need and we give you a firm written figure before anything is cut.

A two-piece suit in a hard-wearing worsted and the same suit in pure cashmere with hand-worked buttonholes are different pieces of work. Publishing one number for both would be misleading, so we quote properly instead — once we know the cloth, the construction and how far you want to take the detailing.

The consultation is free and there is no obligation. You will know exactly what your garment costs before we cut into anything.

Ways to commission

Three routes, each quoted on its own terms

  • All construction and detail options
  • One fitting, plus refinements
  • Typical delivery 4–6 weeks
The full commission

Bespoke

On application

quoted per commission

An individual paper pattern drafted from scratch, cut by hand, with multiple fittings through the make.

  • Individual pattern drafted for you alone
  • Hand-cut cloth and hand-padded canvas
  • Basted and forward fittings
  • Unlimited refinement until correct
  • Pattern kept on file for future orders
  • Typical delivery 8–12 weeks

Wedding Party

On application

quoted as a group

Groom, groomsmen and fathers coordinated on one cloth, each man measured and cut individually.

  • Cloth reserved for the whole party
  • Every member measured individually
  • Coordinated fitting schedule
  • Groom upgraded to three-piece
  • Matching linings or buttonhole thread
  • Delivered with time in hand

What shapes the figure

Four things move a quote

The cloth

Far and away the biggest variable. A Super 110s worsted and a pure cashmere are different propositions, and both are correct answers depending on what the garment is for.

The construction

Full canvas, half canvas or fused. Hand-padded work takes considerably longer than machine work and the quote reflects that.

The specification

Working cuffs, hand-worked buttonholes, contrast linings, pick stitching and monograms are all hand operations that add time.

The quantity

Wedding parties, shirt bundles and a suit ordered with a second pair of trousers are all quoted better than the same items bought one at a time.

Questions

Frequently asked

How long does a custom suit take?+

Made to measure is typically four to six weeks from your first appointment. Full bespoke runs eight to twelve weeks because of the additional fittings. For weddings we ask for three to four months so there is room for changes.

What is the difference between made to measure and bespoke?+

Made to measure adjusts an existing refined block pattern to your measurements. Bespoke drafts an individual paper pattern from scratch, cuts it by hand, and refines it through several fittings. Both are made for you; bespoke goes considerably further and costs accordingly.

Do I need an appointment?+

It is strongly recommended so we can give you a proper unhurried consultation, but walk-ins are welcome during normal business hours. Call the workshop on 02 9635 8552 any time.

Can you copy a garment I already own?+

Yes. Bring in a jacket, trousers or a shirt that fits the way you want and we can take the pattern from it, then correct whatever you did not like about it.

What if it does not fit when it arrives?+

Then it is not finished. Fittings and refinements are part of the commission, not an extra. Nothing goes out of the shop until it sits correctly.

Do you do alterations on garments bought elsewhere?+

Yes, within reason. Some garments can be improved a lot and some are not worth the money. We will tell you which yours is before you spend anything.

Can I supply my own cloth?+

Yes. Bring it in and we will check the length and weight are suitable for what you want made before cutting into it.

Do you dress wedding parties from interstate?+

Regularly. We coordinate fittings around travel, and for groomsmen who genuinely cannot get here we can work from a guided measurement process with a local fitting before the day.
